Behavior

The bengal is generally good temperament and is very social and reliable. The bengal is a devoted family member, but not really a knee cat, it want to stand on its own pawns. It is intelligent and like to be everywhere and give a helping hand. It is very active, life-full and playful and like to run, jump and climb. Therefor the high climbing furniture are very appreciated since it loves high heights. The most bengals appreciate a cat-friend and is a excellent indoor cat.

Many but not all, loves to plash and play in water, some even jump into the the bath-tube with the owner. Bengals can sometimes be called dog like, since it fetch things and are taught to walk in line. It is rarely terrified for new environments and many like to travel in the car. The bengal is normally a very quiet cat, but it has a big range of voice if it wants to express itself. It can sometimes be very talkative when interacting with them.

The bengal is moving in a way that differ from other cats, it has a very soft and sneaking motion that reminds of the big wild cats. It also carries the tail low, u can sometimes se the tail hanging straight down when its sleeping, while other cats turn it around the body. The bengal is very dynamic and explosive, jumps high and far and climb fast and smooth. it is also very fast, when two bengals are playing and hunts each-other it goes fast !

If you once got affected by this active cat with its beautiful wild look, you cant be without it!

The Bengal Cat

The bengal is a domesticated cat with external physic tendencies reminding of the little asian leopard cat.
Apart from its wild look it got a even and friendly mood likewise any regular domesticated cat. Its energetic and alert. It is a midsize to big cat, an adult male weight in between 5-8 kilo, the females use to be slightly less, 3-5 kilo. Of cause there are exceptions. Its slim and strong.

The bengal is recognized in two patterns and 4 colors:
n 24/22: Black-brown spotted/marble
n 24/22 33: Seal Lynxpoint snow spotted/marble (Siames)
n 24/22 32: Seal Mink spotted/marble (Tonkanes)
n 24/22 31: Seal Sepia spotted/marble (Burma)

Head
The head has the shape of a wide plow with rounded edges, longer than its wide. Its relatively small in comparish to the body. The nose is a bit bigger and wider. The nose mirror is dark orange-red. The cheekbones are pretty high and the whiskers-pads are big.

Ears
The ears are small to middlesize, wide in the base an easy rounded. They sit wide apart and follows the face contour. In profile they point lightly forward.

Eyes
The eyes are big and slightly elliptic. They are place wide apart and the color is a variety of:
n 24/22: green, brown or gold yellow.
n 24/22 33: blue.
n 24/22 32 & 31: Blue green/Aqua marine (31 even green or gold yellow).

Neck
Powerful and muscular, long in relation to the body.

Body
The body is long and powerful, relatively big in comparish to the head. Powerful bone structure and muscular, the male in particular.

Legs & Pawns
The legs are middle long and muscular, the backbone is slightly longer than the frontlegs. The pawns are big and rounded. All pawns shall have the same color variation after type:
n 24/22: black.
n 24/22 33: black brown.
n 24/22 32 & 31: dark brown (pink tendencies are OK).

The tail
The tail is powerful, pointy towards the end and a rounded tip, its of mid-length. The tip shall always be dark, the color is a variation after type:
n 24/22: black.
n 24/22 33: black brown.
n 24/22 32 & 31: dark brown.

Fur
The fur is short and particular soft and dense. It often has gold glimmer (snow bengals have silver glimmer). Bengal kittens goes though a period when their fur is slightly fuzzy. Its fully normal and starts at 6-7 weeks age to fade away when the kitten reaches some months old.

Pattern
At spotted (24) the pattern have spots uneven or horizontal placed. Vertical stripes is less wanted. Spots can be one-colored or two colored rosette patterned. The size of the spots is changing quite much. At the marble (22) the pattern has an unregular shape of marble. The pattern in horizontal direction is wanted, vertical stripes are less wanted. Both patterns shall have good contrast towards the background color and the belly shall always be spotted.

Color
The colors is a variation after type:
n 24/22: Basic color can variate from yellowish, beige, brown to red brown. On the inside of the legs, belly, breast, cheek, and whiskar-pad is a lighter basic color. preferable cream to white. Patterncolor is black to brown with marked cheek strips. The eyes, lips and nose should be framed with black mascara.
n 24/22 33: Born completely white and the pattern / contrast is often not ready before the cat is one year old, sometimes even later. The base color is ivory white to cream. The pattern color is darkbrown to beige.
n 24/22 32: Basic color is ivory to light beige brown. Patterncolor is dark brown to dark chocolate.
n 24/22 31: Basic color is ivory to cream. Patterncolor is darkbrown to dark chocolate.
